WEATHER WIZARD FOR KIDS

My kids and I are currently doing a unit on weather.  Here are some resources that we’re using in the process that we want to share with you.
There are many educational things to do related to weather (for kids) at this site!
http://www.weatherwizkids.com/  We’re going to use the information at this site as a basis for our Weather Lapbook !
Here are some fun interactive games the kids can play that are weather related, too.
http://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-games.htm  I have to show them the Snowflake game since this morning we had our first snowfall of the season !  November 8, 2010.  Hmm, that makes me wonder what the first snowfalls have been since each of my kids were born.  That would be a fun project to graph !    I got 464 and now the kids want to try to beat my score.
Weather experiments…we’ll find some to do today.  http://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-experiments.htm
Today I bought a membership at ABCTeach.com and printed out a ton of printables on the weather topic. I see a lapbook in the future !
We made a tornado in a jar; easy enough to do and a lot of fun to watch !   Hmm, we tried the Bend Water experiment and it didn’t work.  Failed !  We had a lot of fun, though.

THE HIDDEN CITY OF HELIKE !

Microscopic Life in close-up
3:33 minute video
My 15 year old son and I were delving into a science topic that he had, which was microscopic life. We found this video, which led to something unexpected and quite exciting. By that time, the other kids came into the room, wanting to know what was so exciting online. We were about to learn of a buried city from history that the archaeologist's uncovered. Please follow this short and informative trail; you’ll be glad you did. This was truly a "homeschool moment" !

At the end of this video, the interviewee states, “This is classical dated material buried in the [layers of the] sea.  It must be Helike.”

Amazing ancient discovery at Helike - The Real Atlantis - Explore – BBC

So, we asked ourselves, “What is Helike?” and dug deeper, only to find this  next video, which is very short, and also shows a major find !  An actual, dated coin, prior to the event at Helike happening.

What, where and when was Helike?
article
Helike was an ancient Greek city that sank at night in the winter of 373 BC. The city was located in Achaea, Northern Peloponnesos, two kilometres (12 stadia) from the Corinthian Gulf. The related city of Boura was located nearby.
